Kris D. Foreman, College Access Counselor

Kris D. Foreman

Mr. Foreman’s desire to be a counselor dates back to his own high school counselor, Mr. Foy, with whom he had a big-brother/little-brother relationship. “He was always in my corner of success, and was always able to navigate me though my moments of trial and tribulation,” said Mr. Foreman. “Our relationship served as the model of how I approach being a counselor here at CUNY Prep.” Mr. Foreman said that he tries to learn all he can about his students so he can relate to them “on a common ground.” “It gives me great pleasure to be able to explain and describe my students’ strengths and weakness,” he said. Mr. Foreman has been working at the school since February, 2006. He graduated from Binghamton University in 1999 with a bachelor's degree in Sociology, and in 2001, earned a master's degree in Education and Counseling. His hobbies include watch collecting, listening to music, movies, and coaching basketball. These hobbies are very important aspects of my life; they allow me to maintain my sanity away from my students and work. Mr. Foreman said that at CUNY Prep, students “are able to see that our staff genuinely cares about their educational aspirations.”

Travis Grantham, College Assess Counselor

Travis Grantham

Mr. Grantham has been at the school since January 2006, shortly after he graduated from the University at Albany in 2005 with a Bachelors of Art degree in English. His minor was Africana Studies. Mr. Grantham enjoys teaching his college survival course at CUNY Prep three days a week, but said that he finds particular fulfillment counseling students on a one-on-one basis. He also enjoys his extracurricular activities, and believes that they help him be a more productive counselor and teacher. “Playing basketball enriches me as a counselor because I am able to incorporate the teamwork aspect of the sport and implement into my classroom setting with various group work activities,” he said. Exercising, he said, gives him the “ability and strength to be more patient and focused.” He also enjoys playing chess. Mr. Grantham will be pursuing an MPA at CUNY’s Baruch College beginning in fall 2007.
