Each school year, CUNY Prep holds an event to showcase student work and creativity and to reach out the surrounding Bronx community. The event, which lasts the entire school week, features a field day in a local park, surveys of neighborhood residents on topics about health and lifestyle, a fashion show, student plays and films, as well other activities. Below is a short piece about CUNY Prep Week written by Octavia Redmond, who was editor of the school newspaper. Also, some photographs of last year 's CUNY Prep Week:

CUNY Prep Week

CUNY Prep Week taught me that communication and participation are the keys to healthy learning. CUNY Prep Week gave the student body a chance to unify themselves and not be segregated with their regular cliques on a regular school day. During the week, there were a variety of activities for students to enjoy, such as the mock trial. Now, CUNY students who want to be lawyers or judges know more about the courts and how they work. One of the purposes of CUNY Prep Week was to show off the activities at our school and help raise support to keep its doors open so that future students who are struggling can have a second chance, too. I went from cutting school to getting a second chance at CUNY Prep, where caring teachers and social workers supported me and my dreams. My persistence and determination have led me in a whole new direction. I've blossomed into an achiever. The fact that I believe in myself has gotten me far.

CUNY Prep is a program of The City University of New York and the Mayor's Center for Economic Opportunity.
